Walla Rugby (U10 and U8)

We are always interested in new players, so contact us ctrugby@rugbynet.com.au or come to training Tuesday/Thursday (Reserve) or Wednesday (U14) evenings

The Reserve Grade Bulls will continue in the TDRU competition in 2009 as will the Bulls Under 16s side and the Under 14s side. In addition, we will have an U17 and an U12 side. We will also have Walla rugby (U10s and U8s).

Craig Stack, President of the TDRU, had the following gracious comments to make about the Charters Towers Rugby Union Football Club:

'The great benefit of having Charters Towers in any of our grades is that the club remains the most hospitable rugby host in Quuensland Rugby. It would be great for our Townsville Juniors to experience some of the sportsmanship and hospitality that Charters Towers provides. It is very important that we ensure that not only the game of rugby is enjoyed by our juniors, but also the culture of rugby is understood.

'We are very excited to see Charters Towers establishing a junior rugby base. The schools in Charters Towers have some great kids and rugby would be all the stronger with their involvement.

' As far as the start of the competition goes for juniors, if past years are anything to go by then the season should start in early April. We are aiming for 5 teams per grade, and with the exception of Burdekin under 15's in 2005, all teams are from Townsville. If the Bulls can commit to a senior side (I would love to see this being A grade), an under 20 side and a junior side, I reckon we would move mountains to get a 3 game card in the Towers as often as possible.

'I really mean it when I say that the Towers is the best and warmest venue in QLD rugby. It would mean a lot to us if you formed part of our regular competition as parents would experience something that they would not presently experience very often with junior sport.'

Thanks, Craig, for your kind words, and we look forward to the new season, starting after out Social Tenz compeition.

The Charters Towers Rugby Union Club - 'The Bulls' - thanks new and old players, support staff and supporters for the 2008 season, and welcomes you to the 2009 season. The Bulls play in the Townsville and Districts Rugby Union (TDRU) competition, with matches in Townsville, Ayr, Ingham and home games in Charters Towers.

Bulls ClubhouseRugby Union origins in Charters Towers date to pre-1885. The current club has been established for29 years in Charters Towers and has won several premierships and been finalist on a number of occasions. The club has also had many players who have played in the Townsville representative team 'The Brolgas' and the Queensland country team.

The Bulls is a community-based club, proudly supported by local businesses and built on the tradition of hard voluntary support work. The club has its own field (Dave Thomas Field), clubhouse and facilities located at the corner of Deanes and Phillipson Roads.
