Charters Towers Rugby Union Football Club A

Presentation Night

October 13, 2007

The Wallabies and the Kiwis failures to continue in the World Cup were certainly commented upon, but the main talk of the night was the success of the Bulls - both individually and as a team and a club.

Brad Burke, as Master of Ceremonies, kept the night moving along. Sergeants at Arms Nick Bailey and Shane Craw had a long list of incidents for 2007 to report on, a list of rules, including Rule 32, allowing them to change any rule at any time as they chose, and a selection of foul tasting (judging from the faces and lack of ability to speak afterwards) beverages to be consumed as fines.

Jim Mitchell started the toasts with a brief and to the point toast to rugby, followed by Brad Tickle with a toast to the CTRUFC - a slightly more lengthy speech, as he is one of many leaving (or having left in the recent path) Charters Towers for the drought in Brisbane. Ashley Blockland, a most welcome new member of the team this year, replied. Dale Larpert toasted the women of the club with Kath Catterall responding on behalf of the women and the families. She and Ian are also amongst those heading south. Ian, as a focus of the officials'' yellow card wielding abilities at times, gave the toast to the referees and kindred clubs, with a reply by our own in-house official, Ted Vinson.

Gold City Catering again supplied a great meal. Ross Pukallus had obtained a Bundaberg Rum Swag to be auctioned off, and Ross Palmer kept the bidding lively until our major sponsor, Dick Alford of Alford Motors, finished with a bid of $465. Thanks Ross and Dick.

Coach Ross Pukallus reported on the 2007 season and the Presentation of Trophies began.

President (until 6:10 am Sunday morning) for most of 2007, but also joining the hordes moving to Brisbane, Peter Hutson, was given a CTRUFC rugby ball which ahd mysteriously turned up in a swamp at All Souls St Gabriels School. He was also presented with a plaque in thanks for his efforts for the club over the last 12 years.

Coach Ross Pukallus was thanked and presented with a gift, in spite of his bringing the wrong DVD for the slide show.

The freeholding of the club's grounds in December 2006 was celebrated, with thanks to those of the Bull Pen Trust including the new NVVPs for Life - Ron Edgar and Tony Titley.

          Congratulations to all Award Recipients!!

We thank all the sponsors and patrons who donated trophies for the night, and for their commitment to the club over the years.

Thanks also to Gold City Caterers for a fine meal.

Thanks to everyone for their interest and support throughout 2007 and we look forward to 2008!
